As Christmas approaches, your wine cellar is a place to stock up for the season, ready to share your favourite vintages with friends and family. Susan Van Meter and the Team design a sanctuary of celebration, history, and craftsmanship in this grand Victorian home.

Romance

There’s something undeniably romantic about descending into a classic wine cellar — especially one tucked beneath a grand Victorian home. Beyond its practical function, a wine cellar evokes timeless luxury, craftsmanship, and the pleasure of good company. It’s not merely a storage space; it’s a statement of heritage and taste.

The Tasting Area

The tasting area should feel as inviting as it is elegant. Picture a bronze metal finish bench, complemented by plush leather teal stools—a refined nod to Victorian opulence with a modern twist of color. Overhead, bronze candle lights cast a gentle golden glow, creating an intimate ambiance perfect for evening tastings.

Aesthetic Meets Function

Every detail contributes to the cellar’s allure. Dark elm wood shelving offers both warmth and sophistication, while the dark elm storage doors bring depth and drama to the room. The cabinetry, with its rich tones, subtle sheen and under-shelf lighting, becomes a backdrop to illuminate the bottles.

Climate Control

Behind the traditional façade, technology ensures perfection. A state-of-the-art temperature control system quietly maintains the ideal climate for every bottle, protecting your collection through the changing seasons.

Underfoot, a herringbone brick floor sets the tone with classic geometry. Discreet uplights cast a soft glow upward, illuminating the brickwork, highlighting its deep textures.

Preserving History and Character

When designing a wine cellar for a Victorian home, authenticity matters. Keeping the original brickwork gives the space texture and history. Each aged brick tells a story, and preserving them ensures the wine cellar remains in harmony, allowing the building to breathe with the home’s period architecture.

Every grand home deserves such a space—a wine cellar that reflects both its storied past and its owner’s appreciation for the finer things in life. A blend of tradition and innovation, it turns the simple act of pouring a glass into an experience.
